What the surgeon does
After drops widen your pupil and numb the eye, Dr. Kumar places a special lens on the eye. He fires many tiny spots of laser light across the retina. Depending on the problem, spots seal leaking vessels, or treat the outer retina to reduce the push for new weak vessels to grow. The centre of the retina, which you use to read, is spared.
Who it is for
People with diabetic eye disease that is leaking or growing new vessels. Laser protects sight. It usually does not bring back sight already lost. You may need more than one sitting. Dr. Kumar will tell you what applies to you.
